6/11/18 ***NO REPRO FEE*** The Arnotts Christmas Windows were unveiled yesterday evening, under a cascade of artificial snow as the Arnotts store front was also lit up with 1300 light bulbs. MC and presenter Sinead Kennedy oversaw proceedings as she explained how the Arnotts Creative Team teamed up with Irish illustrator Emma Sheridan to bring the wonder of Christmas to life in the Arnotts Henry Street windows.Emma and the team worked collaboratively since last January to create a story of ‘Ben’ and his family having a day out Christmas shopping. Everything in the windows is seen through the eyes of the main character, little Ben and 2D and 3D effects create a theatrical, colourful, experience in the windows, that both adults and children can enjoy. Interactive hand prints at children’s eye levels allow children to cause further special effects in the windows this year, further adding to the wonder of Christmas at Arnotts. Pic: Marc O'Sullivan

Selfridges transforms façade of iconic Birmingham store – with monumental public art commission by Osman Yousefzada26 Jul 2021 1 Press release · 6 Images
Today (Monday 26 July), Selfridges has officially unveiled a new monumental public art commission by multi-disciplinary artist Osman Yousefzada at its Birmingham store. The iconic building, famous for its bulbous blue shape and large silver disks is now covered by the worldÕs largest canvas showcasing Osman YousefzadaÕs black and pink patterned design. This new art installation, entitled Infinity Pattern 1, is dramatically changing the Birmingham skyline as it stretches over 10,000 sq meters (nearly 50 meters in height and 250 metres in length and weighing 5 tons). A radical new landmark for the city, Infinity Pattern 1 addresses the issues of race, labour and migration, which have shaped BirminghamÕs past and present, but also carries a deep sense of optimism, connectivity and hope. For Osman, who is Birmingham-born, and the son of Pakistani-Afghan migrants, the work contains some autobiographical elements, but at its core it stages the concept of a world without borders, whether physical or imaginary, represented by the endlessly tessellating pattern. OsmanÕs design was chosen following an international competition led by Ikon, Birmingham, the highly esteemed art gallery, which has also curated an exhibition and art trail in-store, inspired by OsmanÕs work. The art installation will remain in place whilst the store is undergoing major renovation work due to complete ahead of the Commonwealth Games next year. The new windows represent a large-scale visual interpretation of the store’s 2021 creative theme, Good Nature, across 20 windows. With Good Nature as a theme, Selfridges is celebrating pleasure in nature, conceived with optimism for a future of restoration and growth, offering visitors physical and digital experiences responding to the natural world. Nature and escapism are at the creative heart of this new window series which playfully integrates concepts of horticulture, the great outdoors and the spirituality of nature ‘in season’. Outdoor pursuits, which have gained renewed popularity in the past few months, such as camping, climbing or foraging all feature. The Good Nature window scheme is Selfridges most sustainable to date with the majority of materials used being recyclable or, when possible, recycled. Today, Thursday 8 April 2021, Selfridges unveils its new windows, inspired by the pleasure and optimism found in nature, four days ahead of store reopening. The Oxford Street store windows reveal precedes Selfridges reopening on Monday 12 April, when customers will be able to enjoy new and unique experiences dreamed up while its doors have been closed. These include a partnership with SoulCycle to open its first Outside Studio in the UK, set up behind the Oxford Street store, offering fitness enthusiasts the chance to attend daily spinning classes and socialise outside in a safe environment. Selfridges London will also see the launch of an exclusive Experience Concierge; a new gifting service offering specially curated experience packages; from floristry workshops to indulgent pampering sessions, out of hours children’s parties in the Toy department and private screenings at The Cinema at Selfridges (set to reopen soon). This is in direct response to the store’s Project Earth initiative launched last August, which pledges to ensure the most environmentally impactful materials used throughout the business come from certified, sustainable sources by 2025. Locked in for Lock Down… Santa helps put the finishing touches to the new Christmas window displays at Selfridges London. The retailer launches its world-famous Oxford Street windows and Christmas gifting services at Selfridges.com. The Christmas theme this year is ‘Once Upon A Christmas’ which celebrates the magic and traditions of Christmas and reimagines them for the challenges of today. The choice of a traditional take on Christmas by Selfridges this year is backed by a nationwide survey by OnePoll that shows that nearly 80% of Brits are wishing for a traditional Christmas this year and 68% agree that this year ‘more than ever’ it is important to try and make Christmas as ‘normal as possible’. Selfridges Christmas window displays have been unveiled today across all the retailer’s stores in London, Birmingham and Manchester. PHOTO MATT WRITTLE © copyright Matt Writtle 2020.

Monday 12th October – SANTA UNVEILS SELFRIDGES’ GREENEST CHRISTMAS SHOP EVER With just under 75 days to go to Christmas, Santa has unveiled Selfridges’ Christmas shop today, available in London and on Selfridges.com, with a selection in Manchester and Birmingham. It is by far the largest sustainable collection Selfridges has ever sold from its Christmas Shop and currently the largest on the UK high street. Half of all products in the Christmas Shop, including decorations, crackers, cards and wrapping paper have one or more sustainable attributes. This means that earth-conscious customers can shop from well over 1,000 product lines, making it easier than ever for customers to buy beautiful and original Christmas decorations whilst being kinder to the planet. The Christmas Shop builds on Selfridges on-going commitment to change the way we shop with a product offer with a difference. The carefully edited selection showcases an offer that make smart use of recyclable materials, pre-loved decorations and are clearly labelled with their sustainable credentials, such as being forest-friendly, plastic-free, or made from recycled materials such as glass or paper. The result is a stunning and eclectic collection of original products that are beautifully artisan in style, with many products handmade, made in the UK and exclusive to Selfridges. With many customers focusing on family and traditions this year, Selfridges’ creative destinations and Christmas products, in-store and online, capture the magical feeling of ‘Once Upon A Christmas’ – Selfridges’ theme this year. It is the first time America’s oldest and most prestigious toy retailer, known for its comprehensive and original toy selection and outstanding in-store experiences for kids, has ventured into Europe in its 157-year history.
